I filled out Place Unit, Placeholder Unit in my ability, and said placeholder unit does have a 1x1 pathing blocker... still you can stack them. :(

Not sure if i understand you correctly, but maybe try changing the footprints of your unit to 1x1 footprints?
They already are. You can't stack them in the editor.
