Greeting, fellow community!
It's been a while and so I took some time with guides from zeldarules28 (many thx) to creat a very basic layout for a map.
So the main goal is to produce a somehow ultimate map for e-sport discipline, succeeding the current ones. Well that's a brave goal, but let's see what happens.
So here's my basic map - here. hope it's appropriate to place internal links.
For some basics:
Generally it's a MOBA. There is a circle in the centre of the map that produce resourse, i.e. gas. Players' heroes can gather that gas. The closer to the center of the circle the more resource income will be. So it's the main strategic point to fight for.
It is yet to decide for the point of the game, whether it's to gather a certain amount of resourse or classicaly destroy the base.
Everything is very discussable at current point.
The team size is apparently 4x4.
I'd also wish to move twards removing Fog of War at all.
There is a very non-complete hero for now, it's a Priest. Guess it's better to stick for classic tank, dd, aoe and healer for starters.
For now my main question for comunity is whether this map is required at this point at all. I saw the awesome Smash Craft and it doesn't take much attention for now, atleast on EU. So maybe I should just stick to something else for now and carry out the idea later. Interested in any oppinion.
I also hope I can ask some questions to fellow mapsters on how to do some things, cause the editor is prerry confusing for now. For instance, I am interested how to use variables in Text Messages. So I can trace some events during debug, maybe there is even another way to trace the events, would be most helpfull.
Guess it's all for now. Looking for your comments, Best Luck
Oh, and welcome to sc2mapster! I hereby offer you the welcome gift of the permission to buy us all a round of drinks!
About using variables in text messages, easy. Instead of putting in text, click on "Function" and find "Combine Text Multiple" (You can use just "Combine Text" if you're only going to use 2 text values), and then by clicking the <value +> (or something like that, cant remember what was written but its a very obvious field) you can add another text value. First one would probably be "Some text here " (dont forget the space), then add another value and use "Convert (Integer/real/boolean/whatever variable you want) to text" and then you pick the variable as the value. If you want more text after that, you click the value thing again.
EDIT: Oh yeah, once you have a testable version, feel free to suggest it for Map Night, and/or join us every friday at 7 PM CET till about 2-3 AM.
Also, watch sc2streamster ;) We've got a few VoDs up at www.livestream.com/sc2streamster and have shows almost daily, covering all aspects of the editor (Altough our trigger guy sort of dropped out early) and we have a 2 hour podcast every sunday at 9 PM CET, and the VoDs of it are on the channel, during which we invite people who made some interesting maps and interview them.
