Our mission is not to clone the existing World of Warcraft but rather to trim the fat of its tedious gameplay and harness the best elements of it to create an exciting experience within Starcraft II.
World of Stacraft (WoSC) will take the cooperative raiding experiences of WoW and harness them.
WoSC will not be about endless hours of grinding but rather put a focus on scripted boss fights that reap glorious reward upon success.
Because of the limitations of GEs banking system, only three things will be saved to a character.
1. Phat Lewtz: Loot will be the major role of character progression in WoSC. We will create hundreds of custom weapons and items for players to fight for in their quest to dominate the galaxy. These weapons and items will be both exciting and siutational... not just... whoo yay I got a new sword that does more DPS and has a different model file... yay...
Weapons and items will have their srengths and weaknesses depending on the situation so it will be a less linear experience than just grinding and grinding for the next weapon so you can toss away your current one.
2. Minerals and Rank: Minerals will be gained while progressing through raid instances and will be used to purchase items and weapons. Rank will be attained by killing raid bosses and will unlock the ability to purchase higher grade equipment.
3. Allocation Points: AP will be granted from killing bosses and can be used to premanently boost a stat of your choice. The stat bonuses are very subtle and will hardly separate a casual player from a hardcore player.
With that said we need as many data experts as we can get to start pumping out weapons and abilities.
I (Ryan), will be triggering most of the user interface as well as scripting the raid fights. That's not to say that no one else can jump right in and help out with that stuff too.
I will be directing this project and approving what goes into it and what does not, but I am a VERY open person and if your ideas are solid they will surely go into the game.
As of 1/6/2011 the user interface is about 60% complete. I will be itching to start tossing abilities onto characters very soon, so let's ger 'er done.
Seems like a great idea, lots of people have thought of it, but never really got away with any progress. Just a quick thought, "The stat bonuses are very subtle and will hardly separate a casual player from a hardcore player." Basicly, wont that mean all players are equal no matter what they actually picked, and there wont be much difference in the selection?
You've come quite a ways since yesterday. I'd like to join you. Oh, and since you're recruting, you might want to post what spaces are available, like artist, developer, triggerer, data editor, and such. I'd be glad to help out in any sort of triggers position. Count me in! :)
You should seriously reconsider your starting-up concept. Using marines/firebats etc. models are NOT the correct choice. The correct choice is to use simple human models and attach armor/weaponsto the model as soon as they are equipped!

that would be hard to make and would probably go over the 5/10 MB limit. plus it would look choppy sience theyd collide and sometimes rotate randomly trust me i know.

Thankyou for interest sir. Kind of confused by this question, but starting stats will be determined initially by a players class/specialization choice. As you down raid bosses you'll be able to spend allocation points to very subtly permanently increase different stats on your character. For example someone whose gained 30 allocation points over the course of a month of playing andd spent them all on HP will have 1030 HP instead of the starting 1000 HP. Its a very small permanent increase to stats, but just enough to help hardcore players. The idea of it is to have some evidence of progression but not trivialize certain boss fights. Korea is notorious for making games like this and the system has been quite successful.

diz looking good, what would happen if they aint the same faction, will they still be in a party?
Thanks ^_^. As of right now there is no set plan for factions, but it's a great idea that I will look into later. The plan is to have anyone have the ability to group together so we can get a solid beta out and start playbalancing. However one thing you will be able to do is choose a custom decal on the character selection screen, so if you wanted to play as a Dominion Marine with the Dominion logo on his combat suit, you can very well do this.

Believe me I would love to do this but right now it's just not realistic with file size and the availability of custom models and modelers.

That's the spirit! I can put you down for playtesting if you like. :)
Thanks for the comments and input guys, keep it coming.
I always wanted to see this kind of map be created. Good luck
I have a suggestion with your introductions here. It is unecssary to convince me what this map ISN'T. Focus on describing in a positive manner what this map is.
When I read this introduction this is what i got from it:
"EVERYONE please listen to me. This isn't World of Warcraft I swear. *breaks chair* Its better! Please don't think of it as WoW. oh god I hate wow ugh. I hate teh grind. jeez it no NO theres no grinding its better!"
Do not fear the whitty comments that might come out of this post. You were preparing someone to comment, "omg... another WoW map... lame". If someone thinks this map is lame, they will indeed comment it. No way to escape that. You must rise above it emotionally and focus on sharing your ideas to those who want to listen =D. Those who are interested with this map will comment as well and you can build your motivation/morale from them. This isn't the Hive workshop. This isn't the place where 20,000-post veterans members rage when someone creates another TD map. We are here to help, share and discuss.
Here is an idea of an introduction. It prevents people from thinking about how bad this map can be and focuses on how epic this map is going to be:

Did any of you see the Jace Hall show where he visit the Blizzard Office as they are working on SC2? ... With the whiteboard having a little circel with title "like SC1" and a huge circel around it saying "like WOW"

11 million subscribers. Are you gonna argue about Blizzard Magic?
I can help with photoshop (not the best at it tho), video recording (can do at highest with 30 fps, possibly higher, I've put 30 as a limit in fraps), testing and publishing in EU.

I would love to see some AI on the NPCs, make them like the NPCs in oblivion, u know, give them a time schedule
Complex AI is on my top list of priorities. We could use a couple extra raid boss scripters on the team too.

You just beat SC2 mapster. I wana test it nau!
diz looking good, what would happen if they aint the same faction, will they still be in a party? :D
So... what are the plans for player characters and enemies? Are we gonna be able to play as all three? And will all three be used for enemy units?
