Just thinking outloud, but the default search feature when searching for Projects->Maps is Popularity. However, in the first screen you have maps in there that haven't been updated in 6 years. Perhaps popularity needs to be better defined to the following in order of priority in what gets pushed up to the top for better visibility to the community:
1) Last date of comments
2) Last upload
3) Last downloaded
4) # of total downloads
This would rightfully put SCMR at the top of this list, but many others that are buried should be pushed further up top. A map project that has a ton of comments back and forth, with recent uploads, recent downloads, should be high up. # of total downloads should be least important, but still, taken into consideration when sorting out in this option.
Next Project: Warcraft: Origins Reforged (A Warcraft 1 and 2 remaster in the upcoming Blizzard Warcraft 3: Reforged engine featuring both classic and enhanced features.) - Blizzard Page
I believe the Curse team is working on the popularity sort currently. Hopefully they'll have something for us—I like your idea, but the math behind that sort of things requires programming and I'm not sure how much of that we're going to be able to get.
any lazy and counter productively dumb automation of the process makes it as biased/unfair/unproductive as sc2 pop system is while sinking mapster's reputation further into the abyss
Totally agree, the organization is poorly thought out and could be easily improved. I love the voting idea but keep in mind if it is even a mediocre amount of work Curse isn't likely to do it. Curse has proven to always go with the "this is easier/better for us" option instead of the "here's what our audience is telling us" option.

Anyone ever tried making a campaign based on Starcraft Uprising novel? It describes Kerrigan's journey from her childhood to her Ghost days to becoming the top gun of Mengsk, an SCMR style campaign on it will be a brilliant addition to lore based campaigns.

"present mapster members" should vote every week
for the next week's front page

No, the front page needs newer, more fresh map. The monthy testing thread shouldn't be the only way a map gets feedback from more than 1-2 people.
The condensed Custom Campaign Initiative is on this Google Sheet!

Regardless, hopefully this is addressed soon.

If this is just a database, its a basic query update in how you ASC the sort option. Happy to offer any guidance or thoughts if needed
