So i'm new here, i've recently became very interested in the art of mapmaking etc, and it would be really fun to be a part of this community. I just have a question or two for you guys. First and foremost how careful should i be of sharing my ideas here? Do people generally snipe ideas and take credit for it later? or is this a really nice place to be? And does this community have any sort of project management tools?
welcome. There was never an idea stolen here, but you could do like me and keep your ideas only for youself until the map is 100% finished. It's more fun this way. I love surprises :)
(and of course, it pushes you to finish because you are eager to share with somebody).
Welcome to the site! Feel free to PM me with anything you need. ;)
As for stolen ideas....Everybody here is pretty nice. I've never seen an idea get stolen before. People even upload their map files for others to see, and I still haven't heard of a stolen map.
As for project management tools....yes we do. If you go here you can make a project page, where you can have your own private mini-forum to discuss the map, as well as lots of other handy tools. If you go over here you can make a team, where other people can join you and once again, have your own mini-forum to collaborate in.

Feel free to Send me a PM if you have any questions/concerns!
I, as always, am here to give you the welcome gift of you being allowed to buy all of us a round of drinks!
havent heard of stolen ideas or maps yet, so feel free to share everything you want to share. If someone does steal your idea, we can maybe write him a relatively mean message.
If you're in the EU, try and join us for the weekly Map Night, every Friday at 7 PM CET till about 2 AM the next day.
Also check out Mapster Mentoring, it's got a list of a bunch of nice guys that know a lot about the editor and are willing tio help new people ;)
Last but not least, check out Sc2streamster, an almost daily livestream covering most areas of the galaxy editor thats been running for a few weeks now. You can watch the videos on www.livestream.com/sc2streamster
If you are seeking help in a real time fashion i would check out the IRC. While we do have some trollers every now and then, it can easily turn into a wonderful discussion about mapping or anything.

That's nice :D i'm in the process of making a big thread in "project workplace" about what i'm thinking and what i'd like to do :)
