The Popularity list has just reset and you will never guess what is happening. The same maps are slowly crawling their way back to their "rightful" spots. Maybe, just maybe the community is sh*t.
Taking dayquil does not destroy disease.
huh?
Duh, it's the maps people know and like but that doesn't mean there aren't more (or better) maps that are on another page than the first...
So yea, popularity system is broken and that is the issue here too

So your saying Nexus Wars and Random RPG Test are the best of their genre? There are way better maps down the list. The popularity system does infact suck but the community isnt exactly helping things.
The system overall just blows.
Well nobody gets a chance to play the others since they are used to what's always at the top of the list, so naturally they just go back to playing that.
Ah, never mind.

After a reset people are just like "ah I'm gonna play a round of Nexus War first". And PENG you got a lot of the old ones up here again.
Or maybe the authors host the map a couple of times again to let it climb the ladder again.
Maybe its just me, but shouldnt people just enjoy making their maps and not worry about how popular thier maps are.
Quit your bitching please, most of your maps are probably less fun / more complicated then Nexus Wars
..... so what do you expect
people play custom games to relax. If they want a real game they play a real game.
I mean seriously there are 1000's of people making custom maps. Do you really think people want to play your map that bad. Think again.
Should really come to the map making with a view that chances are nobody is gonna play your map except you and your friends. Granted Blizz has already stated that they will be revamping the whole custom games list / search features. Be patient and enjoy your creatations.
I personally like to sit down with my favorite smoke and play a couple games of nexus wars to kill time while im not working on my own maps.
I don't think the issue is about popularity itself, it's about getting a fair chance to have your map played and as things stand at the moment the UI is not conducive to allowing people to discover other maps.
This
I've said that many times. Map making is a hobby, not a job. If you want recognition, do something actually productive in real life.
Enjoy what you can with the map editor. Feel free to create worlds you alone or friends can appreciate. You cannot expect everyone to enjoy or play what you make.
Making maps is valid way to get recognized. While map making is hobby, it is way different from hobby like going to forest and camp there. There is nothing wrong to become popular via map making if you are enough good at it.

true
Holy shit is that Kefka?
If you maps are good enough they will rise eventually :)

No, they won't. People only know those bad "popular maps" and even with resets they'll keep playing them because they don't really get the choice to play anything else. Since there are no maps after the resets they'll just create games with maps they've already downloaded, effectively pushing the same shi* to the top again. This will happen so fast that it doesn't leave newer maps any time being displayed.
on the eu servers are 3-4 maps always on top and then there are a new map showing up every now and then.
there is a map I don't even remember (something special force?!) and I've never seen before but it shot up to 4k games/h in one afternoon.
this map is still there on page one so some people seem to like it.
I missed the part where there was a better system in the past? How was the Warcraft 3 system any better at getting people to play random bad games?
If Blizzard changes the system, it's still not going to make thousands of people take a leap of faith and try your game when they know nothing about it. The fact of the matter is that 90%+ of the custom games out there are badly unfinished and the only reliable way to know that you will be playing a decent game is to play a game that was copied from a Warcraft 3 map.
SC2 has only been out for 3 weeks. You can't expect much more.
