Yes I was wondering whats with the weird phenomenon in bnet ratings. In the beta most maps had like average of 3 stars, and some rare gems had 4 or more (with fex exceptions).
Now everything is freakin 5 stars...pretty weird. Or are they abusing the ratings somehow :D
And ofc my map is the only one with like 2 stars :D. Im a sad panda.
You listed them via "Top Rated" on a patch that is live for a few days now. Of course there are quite a few maps that have their regular players that played the map pre 1.5 extensively and rated it very good once 1.5 came out. As soon as more first time players rate them they will drop a little bit (half a star or a star in most cases I guess).
So my estimation is that if you wait some weeks it will look different, although there will probably always be maps with almost 5 star average rating (seeing that it is a very amazon like rating system and there are really nice maps out there).
@zenx1: Go There is a simple reason for that, people were far less retarded in Beta....
How is rating a map that you like with 5 stars retarded?
People in Beta were obviously more critical of most maps because the ratio of mappers was much higher and modders/mappers tend to see more technical problems or errors of the map, little quirks, while regular players just care whether the map is fun or not.
It's probably just because the live servers are full of ideots that can't compare stuff. All they do is just play thier 3-4 different maps and thats it and ofcourse they're all "super good" and "the best thing ever" so they just rate it 5 stars. Or they play something new which they don't like and rate it 1 star. So it's either 5 or 1. But since it's rather normal that you don't play stuff that you don't like and stick with the stuff you like, and let's not forget that most maps have been out for quite a while, most people jus't dont care enougth to rate a map which they (already know and) don't like. That just leaves the people that like it to begin with, resulting in just 5 star ratings.
Hey can i join your sad panda club, my map got rated 2 stars by the first 5, now its never getting played again..............................................................................
guess ill be a happy panda again when MoP comes live xD

This. On Arcade Beta, you got intelligent reviews regarding the functionality of your map (like bugs, lag etc.), polishing etc.
Now, everything here is being tossed aside and you will be told how your Map "looks" and "works" overall for the player, nothing more.
I think that both aspects are very important to improve your project. It's just not really balanced out on live Arcade. We have to remember that most of the players out there are not professional critics, they just play and rate and don't take things like leavers, their own poor performance etc. into account.
Most of the popular maps had been there for what, 2 years now? Everyone who thinks they suck already played it and have no interest to play them again. So when 1.5 hits, everyone who hates those 'popular' maps are avoiding them so they aren't rating them 1s. If they had implemented the rating system 2 years ago, all the popular maps would have tons of 1 ratings to drag it down to 3-4 stars.
And beta population is tiny. Most of current custom map population do enjoy popular maps. After all, b.net had 2 years to weed out popular map haters. So popular map haters are outnumbered and those who do hate won't be bothered to rate them. The popular map fans are too busy playing to try out beta too. I don't think they are idiots, its just that the haters aren't here because they probably don't know 1.5 is out. And they may never will or care.
Actually everything was soo low in the beta because of fukn idiots, I had a rating of 2/5.... all REAL reviews were 4-5/5 But a LOT of people would give me 0 stars and wouldnt say anything. just to be entered in a contest.
A like-dislike bar would have been better, IMO. The fact that Blizzard had to actually code in 1-pixel differences between 4.9 and 4.8 really goes to show how much this system will stagnate in the coming months.
And yeah, most people rate 5 stars because they only rate the maps they liked. Except those rage quitters, they rate 1 star because to rage quit (when something bad happened to them in game, such as being trolled).

and what is sort of anoying. I got 1/8 reviews with actual text feedback (wheter its good or bad doesnt matter).
It not gona help anyone when you just leave 1 or 5 stars...but thats how people are. They either like it (5 stars) or dont (1star)...

its simple people already know the maps and im not gonna play those stupid maps just to rate them with 1-3 stars..

Even Debates had 5 stars.

Well, my map is at 4 stars apparently, and I would currently consider it 100% unplayable (remind me to fix it at some point...)
