Okay as the title says, Which would you prefer to have.
Now before you vote remember to think not only as a mapper but as a consumer as well.
And I would hope that the Donate button would be added to the arcade 1.5 map info section if they added one.
I would prefer donations, but there are arguments for both business models.
You can support the creation of a good thing and its continuous support with donations.
The buy-to-use concept doesn't work well, if a game only looks good at first glance and it doesn't encourage continuous polish of the map. But it might create more money transfer than optional donations because you don't force players to donate. So you might have more than 0,1% of the arcade users spending money, if you sell the map from start.
So... maybe both would be a good way to go?
It would be impossible to me to sell my map (because of copyright issues. I would need to make a deal with all of my asset creators like Blizzard itself and a handful of modelers). But it would be cool, if I could receive donations for the time I invested.
To be fair, I honestly have no idea. There's very strong arguments for both sides. Marketplace can be more interesting for people who'd really like to see their hard work rewarded, but getting money from donations probably 'feels' more rewarding. I dunno. Literally. Completely undecided. Maybe we could have both functions.
Ha, my only stance, is not for the donate system, its simply not having a map marketplace, I dont care weather we can be donated to or not, I mean it would be nice, but its not needed, But I do solely believe that a map marketplace is a crap idea, and will ruin the game. And I have decided that when/if this feature comes out, I am quitting all blizzard products... I mean I already paid my 60$ so why should I have to pay for more. I map, occasionally stream, have hosted a few tournaments over the years, and now I would have to pay to play some custom game, which will just piss me off when it sucks like 99.9% of custom maps do anyways...(before you QQ remember that there are over 100 pages of custom maps at 13 per page on multiple servers)
And I know every mapper thinks they have the greatest map ever. Myself included
But lets be honest, there's not one map out that's worth paying for. I could name a few, and either way that point still holds.
No offense I dont see myself buying anyones crap, just like I dont see any of you buying my crap, if blizzard wants to sell extras for Sc2, why not make some DLC campaigns that are professionally made, with actual voice actors and such and not some idiot trying to simulate a womans voice or some other unprofessional voices, that are Campaign side stories. I would pay 10$ for this DLC type deal. Thats fine, as long as it is not a part of the actual 60$ storyline.
Okay that felt like a ramble lol. but it holds true.
You're hating the marketplace for just about all the wrong reasons?
You don't "need" to pay more for anything. You have the option of paying for a custom map that you really like and enjoy. Maps worth paying for? There's plenty? Considering a single map should be between 50 cents and 2 euro's a price, how is it unfair? Take Photon Bikes for example - that is played by shitton of players, so why shouldn't the developer be able to make a little bit of money out of it. Demanding 50 cents for it is hardly a crime. Heck, it's comparable to apps for a tablet. Or else take StarCraft Universe as an example - you'd consider it unfair if the team behind that would charge a buck for people to play the map, after all the time they put into it?
Out of all the reasons you could hate the map marketplace, doubts about the quality-per-buck ratio is probably the very worst one. And heck, if you disagree with the basic idea so much, why not stop playing right now? D3 already has a RMAH, which is a similar thing.
I think people are more okay paying if they get something, this however doesn't have to be the entire map it could just aswell be a cosmetic skin or a mousepad (Karawasa got most money from mousepads i believe). Kinda like a F2P game or Kickstarter is would be what i would prefer. Question is if it's a donation or a purchase since your getting something in return.
I dont mind paying extra in a game, but the problem is, that they want us to pay for something that was free...
Not to mention when they step in the path there wont be an easy way to turn back, They have already started down this path with WoW, and now the Real Money Auction house. And we have seen how Paying for extras work in an RTS, terrible looking at Age of empires.
LIke I had said, this will be the last I can take if blizzard does this, there has been some debate among the community already.
So if this happens, be ready to see my account deleted, and all my maps removed. I like starcraft 2, but I hate greed. and if you think blizzard isnt taking their 15-25% then your in denial lawl
Its not just blizzard that I quit because of this practice. its also all games with the internet pass, I wont buy it if I know it has one, because its a dirty trick to get extra money.
I'd like a "Name your price!" kind of concept, simply because I don't like the word donation for something like that.
But I don't see how they are in contrast to each other, I want both. The possibility for "Name your price!" and fixed prices. I was really surprised when I heard about how well you can actually sell stuff in the Real Money Auction House in Diablo, so I think a marketplace would be really really great for the mapping community. Simply because it will encourage many people to put a lot of more work into their projects or learn the editor to begin with (and don't stop projects in the early development stages all the time).

My original point is still standing, from an older post, I don't believe in charging for something that has been free for over a decade.
I knew there was a reason we kept you around.

Best way would be to allow to sell DLC like extra heroes, or extra missions for campaign, but I guess the syste just isnt build for that.
It's amazing how much I can fail at making a quote
The choices don't exclude each other, so I vote for both.

You live in a bubble.
