So, the 1.5 arcade beta is out. I have a few questions and other mappers may share them, so I hope you guys that tested it can help us here.
I've ssen you guys created new player accounts just for it. Do we have to create new accounts for this beta? What about published maps, if I upgrade to 1.5 and publish my map right now, will it only be avaiable for 1.5? Can I access unupgraded maps in this new arcade?
As nobody answered I went on and installed it. Totally separate installation from standard SC2, so I had to download over 7Gb even though I own the dvd, but ok. I didn't wait for 100%, the game says it's playable way before 50% so when it hit that mark I decided to launch it and check it out. Logged and then was prompted to create a new character. I gave it the same name as the old one but now I'm not sure it will cause me problems. Then a 'Validating Cache' window appeared with a progress bar, it went up to around 90% and stopped. And it's been stuck there for some good minutes now.
@Taintedwisp: Go Well, since it's not about open games, I decided to start a different topic. Mapster comnunity is getting the bad habit of going off topic ins the first posts lol, we need to change that.
So, I got stuck in that 'Validating cache' window for over an hour, so I finished it and got back to downloading to avoid any more problems.
Both DDS and TGA are supported types, BUT blizzard is a failure, and picked a size that .DDS does not allow so only TGA can be used. lol its like 225 x 150
@Taintedwisp: Go As a matter of fact it depends on the compression you use. Some compression modes allow sizes not multiple of 4. I use DXT5 and 8.8.8.8, DXT5 needs it, but the other doesn't. Thanks, I'll start working on my icons.
DIT: wont they get stretched if you use other sizes?

.DDS files must be a multiple of four.
A dds file with these dimensions wasn't possible because the editor crashed I think. At least that is what I remember from 2 weeks ago. Basically you have to use tga because of that. :S

Well, I hope people reported so they can fix it, such a stupid bug.
Ok, Now I don't know if my map should be considered melee or arcade. Their examples of melee maps include monobattles so melee isn't strictly melee anyway. Can SC2BW, Sc1 + SC2, and other melee-based mods considered melee? Mine would go in the same category.
OK, went with arcade. The DDS icon worked fine. But when I tried to publish my map got the following error: 'Document text has unacceptable words (own ) [Espanol (AL) <esMX>]' WTF? My map is in english (US) and portuguese, no spanish files at all!

This would probably get answered quicker in the Open Games List topic.

I was wondering if they added any features that support campaigns (multi-map-projects)?
@OutsiderXE: Go
You can do a 2 map campaign :D. but taht will take over your tutorial space, this update really gives hope for the future.
@Taintedwisp: Go Hey, I just remembered you said the map icon had a fixed size, what is it? And which extensions are supported? TGA and DDS?
