Come on. Seriously. Come on. What do you think, how popular is a freshly created map? If you really feel the map is good enough, you should go ahead and promote it. Or play it with friends. The word will spread if the map is good.
Yeah, the popularity system is horrible, Blizzard sucks balls, they're not supporting 'the community', it's all Kotick's fault, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I've only just released a map that nobody really cares about in the slightest yet.

This.
The popularity system is not in itself bad or flawed. Just your illogical understanding and expectations of it.
@EternalWraith: Go
Can you describe how Blizzards balls taste? In detail.
Not surprising coming from "you";p.
You people cannot grasp the entirety of the situation. Simple as that. I deduce it to you and others being either incredibly mentally retarded or simply "hurt" that "Aww, I made map but no one play it!! *cries*".
Its amusing to the say the least.
As for your comment against me in that manner.. It was not a very smart thing to do..
no its you guys who still wont get it. I made tons of wc3 maps and they did not get popular, im perfectly fine with it. I could still play my own maps if I wanted, I could still play different maps than page 1 maps. There hasnt been a single moment when I have tought of wc3 system being bad. It only could have some improvements, but I still liked it.
Its pointless to argue about this. Some people are fine with bnet2.0 for god knows what reason, but im not. I just dont like most of the page 1 maps and I want variety for my maps. Like troncraft is extremely fun every now and then but I wouldnt play it 5h a day and thats why it can never be popular...the system is just so baaaaaaaaaaad....
He's saying he can't do what he could in Warcraft III, and for no longer having that capability it makes SC2's current system demonstrably and quantitatively worse.
I think the issue is that peoples' standards have plummeted in the interim so they chalk up the flaws of the system to the economy, or tough love, or perhaps a magical fairy.

Enough, these replies are getting ridiculous.
Do you even know what you are talking about? I'm just curious, when was the last time any of you tried publishing a multiplayer map on Battle.net, or even successfully played in a full lobby past page three? Please englighten me - you must have a damn good reason to argue this system isn't fubar, we know it's pointless to create new threads but when a mapmaker comes here and politely points out the flaws of the system you shouldn't call them "illogical expectations" just because it's been like this for a year and Wc3 is something to forget even though it magically worked.

So uh... you are now calling people who actually manage maps and have a clue retarded?
It's just pathetic that you are allowed to moderate anything here.

5.I'm sorry, this is just stupid.
1. You`re in no position to make such a statement.
2. Indeed we do. Unlike the common "uninformed" mapper, We are far more objective and our perspective is greater.
3. I shall do so tomorrow.
4. Haha. Did you use the word "Politely" in that sentence?. Thats rarely been the case, nor the fact that they "point out flaws"(In an intelligible and factual manner). Its usually a case of whining and moaning.
5. You are entitled to express your opinion. As is everyone else. Doing so in a non-hostile/sarcasm-free post is most appreciated.

I know very well what I'm talking about. And I'm not trying to say the system doesn't have its flaws, nor am I trying to say that it's always 100% the creator's fault if his map isn't popular. It's just that I've grown so tired of the zombie-like hate on the popularity system. In ways, hell yeah, I liked the WC3 system more. I probably do so overall. That doesn't mean that you should go and cry whenever you upload a map and don't get any players within the hour. The up and coming system should be the judge of how well a map is and while I personally still like it less than the old 'host your own map' concept (simply because that was a simple 'free market' system, whereas popularity+up&coming+resets is a really extensive way to simulate a 'free market' system), it should serve the purpose to a fair extend. With that said, improvements have been said to be on the way and have been on the way since launch, and by now it's really become a bit of a case of either put up or shut up.
But yeah ... its hard to test new maps.... I suggest recruiting members of this forum from the IRC channel and from the sc2mapster channel on battle net.
@EternalWraith: Go1.So uh... you are now calling people who actually manage maps and have a clue retarded? 2.It's just pathetic that you are allowed to moderate anything here.
1. No. I gave Bounty a reply in a style that was appropriate based on his post. Im not exactly known for my "patience" or willingness to enlighten/respond in a courteous manner to arrogant/sarcastic people.
2. You`re cute.
From my standpoint, our dialog is concluded. Further questions or the like may be taken to PM should you so desire.

It might just be our expectations that differ from what the popularity system actually delivers, but I'm with the people who wish for the good old Wc3 system (with a few changes).
I'd make things easier for us mappers in some respect.
However, we can argue here all day long. Unless a Blizzard employee happens to check this thread out and is suddenly enlighted, we won't change a thing.
We can just put up with how it is at the moment, bitch in Blizz's public forum and try to make the best of it.
I would also like to remind everyone that we're all friends here and that Blizzard is an abstraction and has, in fact, no balls to be be sucked on.
I just created a new map. I have been sitting in an open lobby for an hour now. Not one person has joined.
How am I supposed to get the world to experience this map?
Come on. Seriously. Come on. What do you think, how popular is a freshly created map? If you really feel the map is good enough, you should go ahead and promote it. Or play it with friends. The word will spread if the map is good.
ask around from chat channels, thats pretty much the only way :(.
It truly sucks (I doubt the fun or not works)
@zenx1: Go
Come on? Let's see... I created fresh new maps and had a game filled instantly in wc3. It is a huge flaw in design that sc2 doesn't work that way.
@ShadowDestroyer: Go
I completely 1000000% percently agree with you. In wc3 I could ALWAYS atleast test it, even if it didnt come popular

I found the way to get testers is to make a popular TD. Making a TD become popular is probably the easiest thing anyone can do.
Once you have a popular TD, you'll be able to use your reputation to recruit testers for your main map from your TD's fanbase. It worked for me.
So uh... you are now calling people who actually manage maps and have a clue retarded?
It's just pathetic that you are allowed to moderate anything here.
Yet I have the felling something is wrong here! :P
