Blizzard just reset the popularity of my map down to zero... I was on the second page... no reason they just felt it should be reset. This happen to anyone else??
Good thing people are liking my map : ) its going up fast!
Yes. It happened to my map Platform Defense. The map was the second most played (behind Nexus Wars). Blizzard reset its popularity, and it went down to the bottom, while all the other maps kept on the top.
It's strange that a map with 12,000 games/hour went from page 1 to page 50 in one hour. That's the best way to delete a map without making noise. I had nice jokes on the loading screen, but I don't think that was the problem.
Maybe blizz didn't like your being popular. They want nexus wars to rule battle net!!! (CONSPIRACY!!) kidding... But They just reset your map??? Maybe if you asked people at sc2mapster to play it to promote it, they find that to be unfair popularity or something.

if your map was so good then why nexus wars raised up again and yours went down again? Haven't you asked yourself this question?
I think this is a good thing for giving lower maps a chance to get up again and eventualy the best will always go up. It is a good way to keep things balanced while they make a new system.
My map just started getting popular. Before the all map reset it was around page 6 I think? Its been to page 2 before but thats the highest. Today it started climbing again and was on page 2 with around 120 plays in the last hour. When I logged on later, a friend of mine told me the map disappeared : /
It didn't dissapear, just got popularity reset to zero. : ( They didn't ban or remove it. I was just shocked that I got no explanation, just a reset. Oh well just proves that the popularity system still needs a lot of work... Whats with the featured map thing anyway, seriously blizzard made it a blizzard map? I thought it was for new maps to get popular...
And what are you saying with nexus wars going up again? Mine, ONLY mine got reset for no reason... That has nothing to do with Nexus Wars being number 1...
Also didn't really ask anyone to promote it either... I have a couple of fans that are always playing the map, but its not like it was boosted for hours or anything : /

I am so tired of people saying this. I have nothing against nexus wars, but frankly, its not that great. Are you seriously telling me it is better than EVERY SINGLE MAP published to battle net? Debates was better than that! And if not, then it deserved to be featured and on the top 10 at least. How are you supposed to get a map from the bottom all the way up to the top? People don't go that far into the list. The only way is to advertise outside the game, at places like sc2mapster. And thats ridiculous. Popularity needs to die >.<

Eh, its possible to get up there... Just takes a lot of luck and a good map! Lucky for me I have a few huge fans that play my map pretty much 24 hours a day so it is always moving up. : )
And to BlinkHawk, my map was a less popular map... Thats why I made this thread, as it started to get popular blizzard tried to shoot it down.
No need to get agressive here, I'm hypotheticaly speaking. Yet, have you really asked yourself why it keeps going up? You may say it's a terrible map because yours has more work and is more advanced. However, the fact is that it keeps going up.
Why not find why it goes up? I can mention many things: First: simplicity, nexus wars is a simple map and thus can be learned in no time(by first game I already knew how to play). Second, continous upgrades focused in making the game experience better rather than adding new feutures. Third, games are made to be fast and end in an avarage of 20 minutes. Finaly, the game's intensity and pressure increases as time goes by, it isn't constant.

I agree that debates is a way better map than nexus wars, it even is among my favorite maps. However, it's a serious map and it's focused to a specific set of players. The way it's designed intimidates many young players because of being kicked for trolling and things like that. Furthermore, The game is semi-participative since only 2 players can participate at a time, thus, the game experience is pretty passive. Among other things, is the fact that whoever has a highest score moderates the discussion. A single moderator works in real life debates but in internet, a different approuch must be made to guarantee the equality of participants. It is for these and other reasons, that I don't believe that debates should be in top 10.
Don't get me wrong, I don't support the popularity system either. However, I must be objective to the current situation and try to analize what I see rather than what I think.
Have in mind that the client always is right. If players keep playing a game, it is because that 'product' has been succesful.
Thank you for listening and exuse my horrible english. Sincerely BlinkHawk aka. BlinkBoy from THW.
I've seen lots maps rise up and disappear. Just because blizzard use the word popularity, doesn't actually mean its popular. Roundabout wars was super popular for a couple days and was well ahead of nexus wars for about 2-3 days. But when I joined the map, almost everyone is a first time player, and I can tell they didn't enjoy the map. Having a map reach front page for a couple days doesn't mean its popular.
I'm on the side of 'if your map doesn't rise back up, its really not that popular in the first place'.
The real problem with b.net2 is it doesn't allow unpopular maps to be played. In the old system, even unpopular maps can get played. But with b.net 2.0, unpopular maps have zero chance of being played. Only the top 20 maps or so can be played... that's what's broken.
You got to wonder if most of the maps in the war3 list were still popular ones though; as those would be the ones most people played. Either way it seemed better...
Just so you guys are aware, there are services you can pay for out there that will boost your map with bot accounts.

"Better" is subjective. People mostly play custom games as a way to relax or take a break from the ladder games. Nexus Wars is mostly just about setting up the fight and watching the outcome with zero input from the player. It's very relaxing.

Didn't they delete your map Rodrigo?

Yes, nexus wars was also reset together with my map (and a few other popular maps). However, my map didn't go up as Nexus Wars.
Are you saying Nexus Wars is good?
This video shows to you how Nexus Wars went to the top that fast:

A service to boost maps? Thats just sad. : / Now even more maps that suck will be at the top...

Hey, it's like WoW gold farmers... people will pay.
@OneTwoSC: Go
Oh god....have we come to this already :D

I was talking about Platform Defense :P
People will most definitely pay... It will be interesting to see what happens once the map marketplace comes out and screws everything up...
