Was just wondering if anyone had seen any remakes of a few maps.
Warlocks - Arena style, different abilities and objective just to be last man standing.
Orcs vs Elves - elves were weak, and had to mine gold to buy buildings + units, blocked of narrow spaces with buildings to keep safe from orcs. Orcs were big and bad, hunting down elves. Both had alot of upgrades and was a realy fun game cause there was so many options.
There were also other games of this type, where someone controlled the strong units, that hunted the weaker ones that had to build+team up to win.
Pudge wars - Hook people on the other side, and kill. simple map, but realy fun when playing with friends.
Already seen a game that looks realy nice and promising, called Hex'd.
It reminded of Warlocks, but with a different style. With more upgrades and tuning I think this will be an awesome game eventualy.
Played this for 5 hours straight when I first found it :D
Anyone else have any good findings and games that look promising?
Orcs vs Elves sounds like it's just Cats vs Mice. I've already seen people on this forum discuss maps like that. As for promising maps... I have to say I tried a map called 'random wars', which I found pretty interesting. It's basically a FFA/team deathmatch to 10/25 kills, and everytime you die you spawn as a new random type of unit. This can be literally everything, from the mothership to a probe (that can build pylons+towers for mana). There are also some "AA-attack" and "healing" and "detection" powerups that influence the game, along with a "reroll" powerup that allows you to get a new unit without actually dying. I have to admit I found the concept pretty interesting, though there was some room for improvement.
Yeah, actualy tested that one. Good concept, but needs alot of tuning and balansing. Also thought that players shouldn't be able to see the entire map, fow is needed on that map imo
I think it would be great to have something like DotA. Another WC3 concept that was extremely interesting is the one used by Battleships/Battletanks.
And please, no more TDs. I HATE this concept. Spending half of an hour playing the most popular maps in SCII has shown me once again why I hate them. Seriously, a concept that requires at best 15 APM is nothing but boring. Same for all other maps that are nothing else but clicking some buttons a few times every minute. That's the most important thing: Getting some INNOVATIVE maps and a map publishing system that honors the creation of maps which does not use 12 years old concepts.

Who says a map has to be 'action-packed', though? If you hate the concept, that's fine, but why such a hateful attitude? I view TD's more as 'puzzle' maps where it's up to you to get an optimal combination of towers (and in some cases an optimal maze) to kill everything. Not as an active "OMG I HAVE TO KEEP CLICKING" map.
Yeah I never understood why some folks seem to be offended that other people enjoy the game in a different way. Also, asking for innovation and DotA in the same post is ... well... yeah.

Would you mind to explain the last sentence?
On the other thing: I just said that I think TDs are boring. Thats because I consider playing against units controlled by other players much more appealing and challenging than killing creep waves with a very static behaviour. But if you like them, just play them. I am not offended because of that. It is just annoying to see what would be possible with the Galaxy Editor and then start SCII and see that it is not possible to play any maps that I consider interesting, because it seems that they don't exist in Battle Nets extremely innovative popularity sort system. The lack of an alternative is annoying and not the fact that others like TDs.
I think DOTA would be fun on SC2 but i dont really see how it could work with no invientory and all.
I dont realy see why people want more DOTA maps btw. There are several games out there that is made for this consept and this consept only.
Take for example Heroes of Newerth, got a whole team behind it and started with proffessional play with big $ rewards. Just dont see the point in doing a remake of this to SC2.
@SockWizard: Go
Not sure if I played this exact map, but I think I know what kind of map ur talking about. and yeah, those types of maps is realy fun. Go create!
Two other old WC3 maps I remembered now is:
Commando Wars:
3 teams spawn in 3 different startingplaces with 2 or 3 peasants. out in the map there are tons of different units, but all of these have a number next to them. The number tells how many peasants you have to run into there to get that unit instead. With the units you have, you are supposed to kill of the other teams, and first team to ... kills win. There are also alot of different combo's here, where you could get 2 different units, and in an upgrade place in the map, fuse em together to get an even stronger mob. Or just fuse 2 of the same together and get a big one.
Multi Square Defense:
4 teams. Map devided into 4 squares. upto 3 players each team. 1x castle in the middle of each square and gold for mining around the map.
You could have mobs coming in levels, or have players summon them for income. different game modes. In the start there also was alot of different races to choose from. Several builder type races, some hero type races and some semi builder/hero. You could buy statsboosts for your heroes, items etc. Builder races had lots of different upgrades for their units and buildings. There was even one Sim city type builder race, that had to create residence to get inhabitants, then build food for them and workplaces to increase your own income. You could increase or decrease the tax they payed, which affected their happyness etc. And ofc for defence this race could build a police station to create marine type units.
With all the different types of races and buildstyles along with send creeps to opponent for income aswell created alot of diversity and possibilities for this map. Would have loved to see somethin similar pop up in SC2
Werewolf Transylvania is pretty fun enough to be remade. Humans are to find their own base to strengthen and upgrade while gathering gold through jobs such as fishing, farming, hunting and gather lumber using peasants. The Werewolf is chosen at night (or the second night?) and must go hunt animals and Humans while also concealing his identity until day time where he would revert back to a Human. Basically, the wolf has a 1v1 advantage early and middle of the game but can be defeated when the Humans team up so that's why he has to conceal his identity. There are ways to suspect a wolf such as the marking on the ground of the animal it killed and which base is nearby, which person has a base but no person in it at night, and seeing the wolf right before day time then seeing a Human nearby.
Also if it's possible, someone should make an Item Recipe tutorial (it's not for DOTA).
Are you kidding me? Seriously? There are still some people that don't know how much more advanced you can get with the Galaxy Editor? Have you even checked into any maps people have made? People figured out how to make inventory a long long long time ago...lol. Sorry for the outburst, but this REALLY shocks me lol. Guessing these people have never even bothered to check out the announcements on the website O.o
I am well aware of the insane amount of possibilities with this map editor.
But some games are still great because of their simple nature and creative gameplay.
Thats what im most eager to see in the SC2 future of mapmaking. Not heavy advanced maps, but rather maps which creative and intriguing gameplay.
What I said was primarily in regard to SirWhatshisname lol. And I'm sure we'll have plenty of both extremely advanced and pretty simple maps. I've already have quite some fun with some maps created thus far, and look forward for more maps, and some more complex ones in particular.
Any in particular you would like to recommend btw? One of the promising ones I have seen so far is Hex'd. Competative arena style map. Not complex, just fun to play
Mmm, yes Hex'd is awesome, I played that a ton when we were able to play on multiplayer, and fooled around with the ai on the new modes. That game is exceptional =D. One promising game is DotA: Storm of the Imperial Sanctum. Now, hopefully you aren't one of the ones who think it's just a plain remake of the WC3 DotA, because it's really not - it has much different stuff to it such as mercenaries that'll really make some interesting things. On one note though, I never really played much of the regular DotA, when I played WC3 in the last year it was primarily Element TD and Legion TD (Def one of my all-time favs, and the maker of that is going to be making a SC2 version of it, with of course the better additions that SC2 has to offer =D). The Tristram game that was announced today looks pretty sick as well lol.
I played dota alot, and have moved over to HON now, a standalone game build on Dota. So my interest in any dota like games in sc2 will be very low.
I agree, Element TD was very good, havent testet Legion TD tho. The TD's that implement alot of different aspects to the game, like the intrest in element TD makes it alot of fun :)
Agreed. I'd definitely recommend trying out Legion TD. Extremely different play style, not at all like any td truly. Very fun, with several races to play as.
Hey guyz, I am new and [...] so i've noticed some of you mentioned AoS alike maps to be reborn and as far as i looked at prototypes of remakes of this kind of maps, i noticed that they are all trying to mix sc2 with wc3, and i don't see it happening in good way, but what i mean is, that this all is fairly too... magical... and as one of you said it good, there was battle tanks, it had a lot of "magical", "fantastic" things in it, but it could be made without all this, but skipping, what i wanted to say is that i think it will be much better to try to keep this future Dota of sc2 in sc2 style, so more likely to use and base spells and characters on what is in sc2, not what is in wc3, so keeping the shape of Dota but giving it another color( putting it in other realm), it propably should be easier, as wells as it propably will look better ingame, and i know i am an idiot, and i say what is obvious for some, if not all of you
I hope you understood what i wanted to tell you, i and i don't want to make it long so if you want to talk about it more expendently, send me a message. As you propably noticed, i don't own sc2, i didn't play beta, i didn't play the first sc for many years, but i will get it for sure and i simply can't wait.
If you will refer to this, call me either Eibon Ryuu or Shiroi Azrael, if requires anything more normal name, Johnatan Seals(not my true name)

I've been waiting for a good AOS map, yes. Just not sure when this will appear.

Wait... no inventory? Inventory creation is old news in SC2...

Edit: In addition, there are a couple of maps already underway that are taking the concept of DotA and making something much better. For example, check out http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/map-development/3718-starcraft-ii-dot-a-storm-of-the-imperial-sanctum/.
