So I'm working on a project that is basically going to help one really plan out making a map. Just in the same way that one would make an outline for a paper, this will do the same for mapping to give people something to refer back to. So that said, I wanted to pose questions and give a whole bunch of information to people in a hope that they might produce more cohesive maps. With that said, here are some of the main points I'm making.
-Game type(TD, Co-op,etc.)
-Map Size(directly related to type)
-Terrain(provide larger images of each, in game)
-Number of Players
-Who is your audience?
-What distinguishes your map?
-Other-Do you plan on implementing heroes? (these will come with links to tutorials pages)
If you have any other ideas, suggestions, let me know.
(note: this is not going to be implemented within the game, but simply as probably a single webpage)
I edited your post to be in the plain text format for you, since you weren't using any mark-up anyway and your list was unreadable.
Your project sounds interesting, but what exactly are you talking about? Is this going to be something like a flash program that asks me certain questions about my map and consolidates my answers in one neat file so I can keep track of everything while mapping? Will it generate a simple minimap with a rough drawing of my terrain? Or are you talking about 'outline' in the simplest sense of the word, where you basically write a short essay with guidelines how to approach mapmaking?
Either way, a section on balance might be interesting. It's useful to know whether you're going to balance your map through terrain (melee maps), units (custom maps) or AI attack waves (PvAI maps).

Whenever I made maps for WC3, I always had a big problem with leaving them unfinished. Why? I would get an idea and just start pounding out terrain and data without an inkling of thought. So naturally, I would have major issues like "I really think this terrain would have been better". "I don't like this or that." Working with other people, I saw that I wasn't the only one. I kept asking myself, "Why did you think this was a good idea?" I'm hoping that this will really cut down on poorly executed mapping, as well as helping others just organize their stuff.

In short, yes.
It probably won't be flash, but something similar to it. (still working out the nitty-gritty)
You will answer several questions, and the result will be a printout.
As of right now, it will probably be more of a simple outline. I might integrate something on the lines of allowing one to perhaps draw a minimap view, but nothing to the extent of producing a sc2 file with that map outline.
This could be a neat little tool. More mappers need to take time before their projects get started to draw up their own outline, and a well-made tool for outlining could indeed help the community... But you need some way to prevent the tool from just spitting back what I said at me- because that would be a total waste of my time, when I could just type up an outline myself. But we shall see :D
Search in google for a methodology called Scrum. Even though it's for software development, it may help you out set a better example of how you should planify a development process.
Lol if you wrote an essay for your English class they'd probably dock a shitload of marks off you for your random capitalisation.
Maybe I'm just being harsh, English isn't everyone's native language.
Lawl, Yeah that is a problem that Recently Came into play it only happens when Im typing, I do it Subcutaneously, I realize I do it but I dont realize until after I type it. lol
I type at around 80 WPM so I cant concentrate while im typing. lol, i put thoughts in my head and my hands automatically type it out. It has gotten a bit ridiculous.
Sorry for the random capitalization.

Thanks for the edit, I was running out the door when I thought, "I should really get some extra input on this."

@zeldarules28:
i do this :D i can honestly say I 100% love my teams projects terrain:D
@Taintedwisp: Go
May I see some screenshots?
@Nebuli2:
ill show you some tomorrow :D Just terrain though, its very simplistic, yet very elegant, and easy on the eyes.

Heres what I do to plan
Write Ideas in Ms_Notepad
Draw Terrain on Ms_Paint
Make a few rough terrains in editor
make Rough Draft Terrain
Improve
Improve every day for the next couple weeks
Send Terrain to teammate so he can check for any possible improvements
Review his improvements and improve on those.
Review ideas on notepad, Change those, Update, Consult with team.
Start Basic Data editing( was started by teammate this time :D)
And then just continue in small steps doing one thing at a time.
Pretty much I do the same thing I would do If I was Writing an Essay for english class. :D
I'm taking a look into the scrum methodology. From what I saw it seems pretty much on par with what I want to implement.

Hope we'd still see something like this, even with Scrum. Very much like the idea, and I'm sure it could be adjusted more to mapping.
