tooltip says available for starter edition
likely they are implementing either a f2p or a demo/trial system where you can play those maps only
and either pay subscription/microt/pay for the rest of the game
to unlock the rest
with diablo 3 news this is no suprise.
does anyone even care anymore.
gaming is going down the shitter.
Maybe Rod is right! Why put a star on our regular edition? Why not just have it for the starter edition only, that star is meaningless on our regular edition starcraft. So perhaps the ulterior motive is, they want their maps to 'pop' out! Lots people going to see a star next to the map and click on it. And some of the people who click might actually play it too.
I'm NOT giving blizzard the benefit of doubt, they have to earn the benefit first.
Or maybe your being hostile to a company that makes quality products, and allows use of their editor, even to the point of planning to allow people to make money of of their maps. What if they want to raise awareness of the starter edition. And I'm pretty sure Rodrigo never said that they did it to make their maps pop out, he was not aware of the starter edition thing.
You replied to the wrong person, that's obviously meant for Grenegg. He obviously isn't reading the forums and missed all the hositility toward blizzard's custom mapping system. Blizzard EARNED that hostility, and thus when they do stuffs like this, people questions. And he didn't read Rod's post.
"Is Blizzard still trying to find ways to tweak the system to make their maps more popular instead of fixing the whole thing?"
Were you not around when the Blizzard maps were permanently pegged to the top of the list, removing 3 front-page spots for normal maps? Yeah, they took that away and opened the space up for more user-made maps. If their "ultimate sinister goal" was to promote their mods, don't you think they could've simply left them up there?
What's with this 'trolling' label when people disagree with your fanboi attitude? Trolling would be baseless hostility. Rod's point was that blizzard was attempting a new way to make their maps more popular. And the stars do that. The first thing people notice on any given page, is the star next to the map. People will click and check that out first. That's what I was talking about.
When blizzard removed feature maps and peg their maps on front page instead, that earned the player hostility. The star system seems like another attempt at attracting players to certain maps. Are you seriously arguing, the star system won't attract players to those maps? (you haven't argued that point yet, so perhaps you know i'm right)
See how I'm not making baseless accusation. When you make baseless accusation of others trolling because you can't argue, now that's real trolling. Its blizzard history of screwing over the players, that makes people distrust what they are doing.
Furthermore, I like to say, I won't given them the benefit of doubt and think they were just trying to promote the starter edition. They have to earn my respect first. Instead, blizzard has been instilling hostility on the player base nonstop. And that's the difference between blind fanboism and a normal blizzard supporter.
What's with this 'trolling' label when people disagree with your fanboi attitude?
Dear god do I hope so badly that you see the incredible irony in that.
Play nice, people. I can't tell you to not make stupid points in discussions, but I can tell you to behave and avoid the ad hominems. The participants should be irrelevant in a good discussion. That goes to both of you, btw.
I'm not sure how it matters if Blizzard bumps their own maps. If I knew nothing about map circulation, I'd like to be able to easily see mods created directly by Blizzard. Maybe there's a button for this, who cares.
Second, I assumed this would be a thread about Blizzard implementing something similar to Adsense in custom maps. Since it's not, well, then who cares. Gosh. The over-sensationalized title just screams "give me attention".
No I see it, I called chiq a fanboi in response to his troll comment. :) He started it! And I daresay, I ended it quite well with a faceplam to him when he outright trolled on his last post. :p

I saw that for some of Blizzard's maps today. What is it now?

If it's anything like the WoW starter edition described here-
http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&tag=wowStarterEditionfaq
That suggests they might be removing the trial time limit like they did for WoW. How exactly is that a bad thing?

I'm sorry, you're right. That was unfair of me. You're not a troll at all.
Btw, you look stylish in that tinfoil hat.

Fair enough. Since the original concerns raised by Rodrigo and Mav have been addressed, I'll excuse myself from the thread.
