yo guys i hope you are havin' a good day
i want to discuss wmhow would a colossus vs thor scenario happens LORE wise
here are some lore info about the two 's weapons and protection.
colossus :
the hull is heavily armored but the gigantic seize makes multiple function parts vulnerable
however.... the shielding of the colossus is remarkable. the official short story sad that the colossus' shields sustained fire from a full wing of vikings shooting antimatter ripwave missiles that usually tear apart BC armor. the colossus' shields also tanked a tactical nuke ,and a whole team of goliaths ,marines and marauders firing at it, before finally dying.
armaments:superheated plasma beams . indeed forget the game mechanics ...since the colossus' beams in the official short story leveled an entire fully shielded building with a single strike. these weapons also did a crater in a landscape big enough for the colossus to fit in
(to be honest its rediculous to see such power being downgraded so badly in the game)
thor:
its protected by a thick plates of neo steel and ceramic . it can defeat high explosive shells too.but there are many joints and functionnal parts vulnerable.
armaments:particle accelerators that hammer enemies with searing beams of energy....firing the most powerful payload ever fielded in the dominion army .
250 mm cannons that shoot depleted uranium shells that easily tear armor apart
javelin missile launchers: these are irrelevant to this fight .
so which one u think would win ? let me know plz
btw: these are all canon info .
have a nice day :)
Since the Thor is immobile enough for the Colossus to reliably hit and the Colossus is immobile enough for the Thor to reliably hit, I think this would come down solely to firing power vs. armor. The question that comes up is "how much damage would the Colossus' lasers do against the thick Thor armor, and how long would it take the Thor to shoot through the Colossus' armor?". Answer those questions, and I think it'd be pretty clear who would win.
I would say though: you say that the Thor's Javelin Missile Launchers are irrelevant to this fight, but I'd disagree with that. Seeing as how the Colossus is for all intents and purposes a low-hovering air unit, I'd say the Thor could use the missile launchers to hit it at specific angles. The main issue there is that I'm not sure if it would do any worthwhile damage, seeing as the launchers are made to kill lightly armored targets and may not even tickle a Colossus' shield.
I would assume that Protoss technology is superior to anything terran can offer. Not that a Zealot can kill a Thor; but any two types of units that are somewhat similar (Zealot-Firebat, Stalker-Goliath, Carrier-BC, Reaver-Tank, Colossus-Thor) I think protoss will always win.
Real world weapons evolve in a way to counter opponent's forces. Colossi are definitely the weapon to counter mass bio, and never meant to be anti tech. They simply can't focus the beams, their attack seems to be hard coded as moving beams. Thor's armor will easily dissipate the heat of temporary applied laser (unless it damages the driver).
In the same time, thor is supposed to deal with heavy mech. Which makes colossus a pretty convenient target for him.
@Mozared: Goi think you are right . the thor can use the javelin missiles but i dont think they would be suited for the colossus.
i think the colossus would win . because the ceramic(the component that protects the thor from heat) can whithstand up to 4500 degrees celcius. while the super heated plasma easily reaches 3million degrees.
well these are game mechanics. the colossus lore wise is intended for mass destruction .the conclave wanted a terror weapin .the thor plating can dissipate heat.but idk if its gonna do much against superheated plasma reaching a few million degrees.
