So I created a mod 2 years ago called EnderCraft TD and thoroughly enjoyed creating it, but got burnt out. I'm in the middle of creating an android game as well, but am waiting on my artist to do some work, so I need a new project.
I am a senior programmer for Dell, so basically anything that isn't texturing or modeling I can do. I also fly solo.
So with that, what mod do you guys want?
I like the idea of bringing dead games back to life (Hive Keeper is an awesome idea, if you haven't checked that mod out, I recommend it) but other ideas are welcome as well.
Also, I love the Rome city builder games (Grand Ages: Rome, Caesar III & IV), so that is my current idea for a mod.
Speak out and hopefully it will be in my scope.
The one thing that has changed since my last mod is a 1 and 1/2 year-old toddler :) But I definitely still have free-time and would rather spend it programming (or pseudo-programming in this case) than playing Mechwarrior Online, as good of a game as that is.
Remake Ceasar III ! I was in the process of doing so, but tired out cus it was just so huge. But I got most of the basic down:
-Citizens walks on roads that you can place down. Special workers takes the shortest path on the road back to their building.
-Farms can only be build on yellow grass. After 100% it sends a cargo guy to drop it at the closest storage magasine.
-Markets will send woman out to the closest magasine that has food and get food from it. She can give this to houses she walks past and they can evolve to bigger houses adn house more ppl.
-Every now and then, population raises if there are houses that are not full, and the workers are proportioned out to all buildings.
Take some elements from Transport Tycoon Deluxe along with minor factory building, farming, quarrying etc. and set it on an alien planet on which is being colonized and you need to transport around, and produce oxygen, biomass, sediment, energy etc. to keep the colonies alive/earn credits.
Post-apocalyptic survival with you as a civilian, maybe throw in an profession in there and some personality or body type for good measure. Baddies could be zombies and/or other people. Randomized scavenging for useful items and food, partly randomized world generation perhaps so diffrent buildings becomes hospitals, stores, gas stations etc. crafting for weapons and food, make-shift building of camp fires, barricades, that kind of stuff. Try to survive obviously or maybe find a cure for zombiefication.
@LaxSalmon & SheogorathSC: I actually managed to find the backup I had of what I started on this mod 2 years ago (my harddrive had crashed). The Caesar III idea encompasses elements of both your ideas. You have to produce oxygen and energy as opposed to Caesar's water. Other changes will obviously be made to accommodate an alien planet. The idea is to keep the colony alive and making money (crystal and possibly gas). Like in Caesar, the higher class demand 3 types of food (vegetables, zergling meat, and the ever-so-delicacy, Hydralisk meat), and you have the different buildings/raiding parties that go out to Zerg dens and hunt the food, bring it to the Firebat Butchers who burn it up and then that gets sent to the market.
There are all kinds of logic trees to determine what different citizens do and there are day-night cycles, citizens who work different shifts, etc. I was sad to drop the project, but after EnderCraft TD then 2 or so months on this project, I was burnt out.
So that's the basic premise of what I have. I also really like the idea of the zombie-Apocalypse, I'm surprised that hasn't already been done considering it's popularity; Sheogorath, your idea sounds very similar to DayZ and would definitely translate to Starcraft 2 well.

Heroes of might and Magic, Zolden made it but gave up. It had alot of potential.

I didn't, it's finished! And I was going to fix what 1.5 patch ruined and do other fixes ppl gave me as a feedback, but I can't open the map with the new 1.5.3/1.5.4 patches, only hots editor can open it, but I don'e have hots. I never give up, finished all my projects, even the extremly complicated ones like civ or rol.
I want some hero game where I become so powerful I can blast planets off.
I always got this same idea, but no idea how you would even execute it in a fun and interesting way. Aeon of six gods was gooooood before dota. So maybe even lend some elements from there.

I just did what will be my last update to EnderCraft TD (minus bug fixes), so I'm going to jump back on this project and see if I can finish it out.
I'd love to see a good Starship Troopers map.
Im pretty much on the opposite end of the spectrum. As an Artist I like to focus on the models and textures, making everything look spiffy.
I've been working on a starship trooper models for a while now, just need to animate them. Would be awesome to have a map to throw them in :)
