During the midst of uploading a map onto b.net my editor crashed and can not open it since. While I think I know why it's happening, I don't know how to fix it; I was replacing the GameStrings.txt of the korean locale in my map via the MPQ editor. The text file's name that I dragged into the folder had non-english characters. Of course I was going to rename the text file after I put it in - but it disappeared once I did (didn't show inside the MPQ editor after I dragged it in) and was force to drag in another copy after renaming it so it wouldn't disappear again. Afterwards, I opened up the editor - and proceeded to upload but crashed midway.
Ever since I can no longer open up the editor as it insta-crashes when I try.
Attempts I've made:
- Using both 32/64 bit versions
- Running as admin
- Deleting all SC2Editor related registry
- Reinstalling SC2
Do I really have to do a fresh reboot...
Can't believe such a mistake, if you can call it one, would cause this to happen.
The editor is really sensitive... jeez.
And to clarify, I can't open the editor - period. It's not just my map.
is your mapfile coruppted? adding stuff through MPQ-Editor sometimes do that (most likely because you have gone over the space limit which you can manually increase in mpq editor).
does opening another map file work?
i hope you have a backup otherwise you will have though work to recover it.
- Repair on demand / wipe memory cash? (in sc2 folder/log=>console/"now") ?
-Once bugged some maps are irreparable :/ .. this is because you changed the editor, not the map (and reinstalling could fix if you get rid of everything "properly" (as in some stuff is not erased and keeps on crashing your editor) and reset other stuff's properties properly in your system...
i had the instacrash from a map where i copy pasted gamedata/other stuff.. like a pig (by saving/opening 2 maps as components) and i had to get rid of it... but re patching at least made the editor accessible (lucky me)
in all evidence your situation warrants a mail to blizzard.. this is "reinstalling your GAME" (this is not editor support, this is THE editor) .. they will help you (responses will be slow (only by giving them the best account of all the data and history of how you got there will help), but will happen, it is within their obligation.. as to how long that will take.. #it only starts when you actually have sent them an email/again "repair on demand with bnet app opened)

My mapfile is not corrupted, even if it were I still have hundreds of back ups.
It is something wrong with the editor, it just won't open regardless of what file I try to open.
Opening up an empty map will crash as well.
does the blizzard repair thing work?
Did you try
- opening editor through bnet app ?
- Repair on demand / wipe memory cash? (in sc2 folder/log=>console/"now") ?

gl
i can attest to it.. (for sure it wipes memory cash in ways that are more conducive to effect than doing it manually .. )
as to how it works
i have a dream that it sends a report and then blizzard takes control of my machine to fix it
bib brother is no longer just watching, he making you!
Did no one notice you are supposed to be "connected" to bnet galaxy to use the editor now?
no one mentioned it (what it implies etc)
i feel so old
ps: i might have meant a nitemare
on topic :
good luck fixing, hope u manage soon
