i am trying to create a new ability for a thor where it would go an shoot lightning out of each arm, similar to how when it does a regular attack except it will now shoot out the archons lightning. It deals the proper damage, and i see the lightning effect, except that it only comes out of one arm, any got any clue what i would have to do to make it so lightning would come out of both arms?
If you want it to shoot lightning from both arms simultaneously you can simply create 2 different beam actors with different attachments points.
If you want it to alter between the two arms with each shot, you'll need an attachment method pattern, I suggest you look at the viking for more info on that.
I am assuming you have a duplicate thor. Hope it helps!
Vikings have different attachment style than thor, thor have no left or right reference on events.
AMPatternThor (launch query in the attack actor) also has a reference to the standard weapon in it. Clone the attachment method, edit the driver, done.
If I can ask, how did you get the Thor to shoot lightning from his guns? I've been trying to change the default attack to shoot beams, but I can't figure out how to make a single-shot beam weapon (they always seem to go on forever until the target dies).
i can think of 2 possible reasons why it would go on forever, the weapon/ability/ etc. that you are trying to make has a persistent effect with a really high period count (sort of how the sentry's attack works) or its an issue w/ one of the actors related to one of the effects/ability/behavior/etc
Ok, so I got the persistent beam problem fixed, but now it doesn't face it's target or play the normal firing animation. What controls the animation and the must face towards target?
I gave the Thor the Mothership beam weapon (and removed the secondary beam effect, so that fixed the forever shooting problem), then changed it to allow no movement while firing. Telling the Thor to attack something causes the beams to shoot from the guns to the target regardless of which direction the unit is facing, so the beams fire behind the Thor, or to the side or whatever. Basically, if the target is already in range, the Thor will not turn to face it, it will just stand still and shoot over the shoulder or whatever direction. It looks really odd.
never really had to deal with something like that, the best i guess can come up with is try fixing it by going into the weapon and for the "weapon-options" check "only fire at attack target" and "only fire while attacking"
maybe that's because the mothershipweapon is just configured in that style (the mothership itself also doesnt turn towards the target, because it hasnt a front and a back)
I agree Blubbdavid, the mother ship weapon is a "turret" meaning it will shoot anything around her w/o having to turn, i made the same effect with a banshee i have her shoot missles with out having to turn to her target. you can turn off the turret effect but i forget where you can do that, i don't currently have the editor on me since im at work but i can check when i get home.

actors control the animation, and what do you mean by doesn't face its target?
