First : when I try to export a slightly modified model (the mantid from WoW, with (I think) added normal and specular maps), 3DSMax says "Unknown system exception" and shows the script m3_export_v0.25.ms, especially line 2260. I use 3DSMax 2012 student version.
Second : do someone know a way to do zerg-like specular map ? I don't have photoshop, sadly.
If you want to make a specular map, you'll need the software to create it. Recreating zerg-style specular maps is a fairly simple process in photoshop, and it can be done in 3 steps. You simply open the diffuse map/texture, shift the Hue/Saturation to blue, then apply a Plastic Wrap filter.
You could always try getting GIMP if you don't have photoshop, it's free to use.

What model are you exporting?
If you have any problems with the M3 plugins, please, use this http://www.sc2mapster.com/forums/resources/third-party-tools/963-m3-exporter/?page=45#p893 thread
The mantid, from World of Warcraft, extracted with WMV.
And thanks for the link.
