Hi everyone. Lately I've been editing units but I actually want to create a new one. The problem is, everytime I create a new one there's always small bugs/inconsistencies. I've looked at the guides here, but they seem outdated because some of the options don't work or even exist. Can anyone give me a simple way to basically duplicate a unit and edit it's abilities/stats so it does not interfere with melee units?
I believe my guide (in my signature) still is updated.
Best way to do it:
Choose the unit you want to base the new off of. Generally you should choose a normal unit, like the marine. Right click the marine and choose duplicate. Check off the actor box that says "marine" and leave everything else unchecked. Hit ok. You now have a copy of the marine fully working. Edit that to your hearts content.
fyi- creating a new unit from scratch is really hard and I highly recommend against it.

Everything seems complicated at first. And if you think this is hard, wait till you check out the abilties tab... :D
Dont worry. I used to use Wc3 editor and I can promise you sc2 editor is sooo much better. You just gotta get the hang of it. I gave you really specific steps but when you know what your doing it takes 2 seconds.
Depends how complex a unit you want to make. In general I make the unit followed by the unit actor and then get hammering out the effect tree using a test Effect - Target ability to debug it before giving it to the unit/weapon before finally playing with the action actors.
You can also rename the armors/life etc, you can play with their colours. You can change the units mover/collision and there are always the small visual details with the actors that can take forever to get right (eg the queens eggs on the hatchery).
Basic rule to make a copy of anything: Duplicate unit but uncheck [ ] everything that you are not going to modify. So if you modify weapon then don't uncheck weapon etc. Blue color means dafault value and green color means modified (=copied) value.

I have some basic tutorials here: http://www.zhrpg.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=1538
I should probably post them here sometime >_>

Yeah, creating units in this game is way too complicated, lol. I miss the WC3 editor :(

Oops...
Well I finally got the basics down. Basic steps I did for anyone else interested:
1. Duplicate original unit, but only the actor, nothing else.
2. Rename original unit, then duplicate the actor to be linked to your original unit.
3. Armor/Life/etc. are easily accessible in the Unit tab.
4. To modify weapons and stuff, you need to duplicate the weapons themselves.
5. After doing this, duplicate some "Effects" as well to be linked with the Weapons. Mainly the ones that are "damage" related.
6. Equip the weapons onto your custom unit.
