Does anyone know how to create a completely new weapon from scratch based off of another weapon? I have tried something similar in the past, but nothing really works. Essentially, I'm trying to have a new weapon that looks the same as another weapon, but has different damage, attack speed, etc.
Simply go to the weapons tab, find the weapon that you want to base it from, then right click and press DUPLICATE TYPE (check off the wapon, it's actors, effects, model and units, you don't need sound or upgrades). From there rename anything attached to it, then change the effect (damage) to the damage you want it to do and alter the weapon period to set the desired attack speed.
I tried that with the colossus weapon. It does the damage, but there as no animation at all. Is in there is no lance being fired. It has been a consistent problem
The most simple weapons are only two (ok, three) objects. The weapon, the damage effect and the action actor.
These are needed for every weapon. The weapon is what the unit has, it has the range, target filter, period, whatever. The damage effect damages. The action actor links all launch assets like animations, launchpoint, sounds, visual effects together.
So you probably haven't copied the action actor.
But the colossus weapon is somhow more complex as it uses beams, peristant effects and other model actors for all the eye candy. Try starting with the marine weapon for example.
The collossus weapon is hard to recreate cause duping corrupts several actor fields and events, it also needs several other site and mover actors that dont automatically dupe. There is a tutorial dedicated just to fixing the collossus beams.

launch missile or no or just does dame its fairly simple to have a weapon like a marine so simple
