Hello! I'm StringStorm. I'm a voice actor, sound designer, and a musician. I'll be dumping some of my voice work, sound effects, or music for you guys to give a listen, comment on them or maybe use in your projects. Maybe you'll like it and consider having me onboard your project or something.
Anywho, here's a voice filter sample I did a month ago:
Here's an attempt to improve my trailer-ish voice:
Here's a personal favorite. Its the dragoon from SCBW!
Very awesome. Sound editing is something I'd like to learn as it can add a lot of awesomeness to a custom map, and other stuff as well. Unfortunately just don't have the time to experiment too much in it right now, as I spend that free time in other aspects of map creating. All these little touches add so much time to map development >.<. I dabbled in it for my comedy map on the arcade, "Plan H", and even that basic stuff took awhile to do.
I'm curious as to your hardware setup such a microphone and anything else for recording. Does it take a lot of expensive stuff to capture good audio?
I'm curious as to your hardware setup such a microphone and anything else for recording. Does it take a lot of expensive stuff to capture good audio?
Well, I own a condenser mic but that's pretty much it. You can make do with a dynamic or a lavalier mic but it takes extra time to get rid of the noise and do post production. The reason why I have a condenser mic is just that. To lessen post production time. But ultimately, so long as you have a good sounding mic, you're good to go. Programs come free and I think you and I know where those come from. ;3
More voice filters! All of these except the Moloch Line is for the Vortex of the Void campaign.
1) Used for a Stalker as a campaign briefing sort of thing
"Our Scouts report strange energy activities around the ruins of the temple. We have to figure out what Mal'Zar is doing."
2) Unused Zealot Voice
"These fools seek to defile the holy grounds of our Master! Slay them all, my bretheren!"
3) My Audition line for Moloch for Antioch Remastered
"Aside from a few scattered settlements and outposts, we are the only remaining survivors on Aiur. This temple, this paradise was the last of Jepok's legacy."
4) Immortal Filter. Sounds a bit more like a Dragoon.
"Pathetic Woman! You will never foil my master's plan! You have already lost!"
5) Really big bad voice filter used for the main antagonist of Narudek's Campaign.
"Pathetic Templar! You are like an insect compared to the power of the Dead God! Ancient Guardians! Slay them All!"
6) Zealot-type Hero. Supposed to be really old
"Mal'Zar is inside of this ancient chamber. I can sense his power flowing from this cave."
7) This one's supposed to be Zeratul. I know I don't sound like him but if you know someone that can sound exactly like him, I'd be honestly surprised!
"The Zerg hive cluster is no more! Now we can focus our forces on those guardians!"
My Audition lines for a Terran Commander for Antioch Remastered. I know I said this was going to be just for Toss and Zerg but it doesn't hurt to throw in a little extra! :P
Hello! I'm StringStorm. I'm a voice actor, sound designer, and a musician. And in this is the thread where I'll be dumping some of my voice work, sound effects, or music that are all starcraft related or inspired for you guys to listen to or maybe use in your projects. Maybe you'll like it and consider putting me on your project or whatever.

I must say you have two really great things going here. First, the mic you are using (or the room in which you are recording) has no ambient reverb which is a B*(#@ to remove in post-production. And since you're using a condenser mic which is notorious for picking up 'everything,' kudos!!!
Second, you have that real deep timbre to your voice (like Zeus Legion (Moloch and others from TAC for those who do not know)) which really lends itself for a GREAT recording and for flanging and other sound form manipulation. I think the TAC team will snap you up in a heartbeat between the sound quality and the vocal range you likely have.
This one was for a spectral ghost thingy for a skyrim mod. Its a simple one. Not much going on there except for a chorus filter then the usual EQing and compression.
https://instaud.io/hPS
One of the antagonists for said mod. I tried to lower the volume of the filter so that it'd sound more natural. Making it suited for a fantasy setting.
https://instaud.io/hPW
I tried to go for an organic necron sound. Doing necrons are easy but I gave this one some creative freedom.
https://instaud.io/hPV
Did a dragon character for some indie game. Just a bunch of gibberish with lots of pronunciations taken from TES dragonspeak. Not entirely sure about the legality of that but the team reassured me. Also not entirely sure what it means but I'm supposed to be a very old sagey dragon.
https://instaud.io/sCt
EDIT:
Here's something substantial. I'm trying to make a soundtrack for this game but I'm short on ideas. Its supposed to be industrial with lots of heavy digitized percussion and some samples of metal clanging. Maybe you guys can give me an idea on how to progress in the song.
https://instaud.io/private/a0490058018cd680a47e504c50b354de85a1d8ee
New tune! I really should go back to making more orotund songs. But these kinds of songs are so easy to make and they sound good aswell.
https://instaud.io/sKM
String, all your stuff is amazing. How do you get your samples to be so clean? Do you have access to a studio?
Not at all! I just a Samson C01U USB Condenser microphone, and a little bit of processing. I'm not even sure if the room I'm recording in is a suitable place as it doesn't have those fancy cusions you'd see in a proper studio. I have a wooden bed with no cushion, concrete walls with cabinets fused against it that contains nothing, basically a college dormitory but not in college. :P
My workflow for every recording I do is this:
Record
Wait 10 seconds for background noise sampling
Talk, Stop recording
Sample that 10 seconds of background noise
Noise Reduction
Apply filters
Equalize
Compress
Manual Treble Equalization on sibilants
Sample audible dithering noise for reduction
Noise Reduction
Normalize
Manual Noise Cleanup
Render
As for what Manual Noise Cleanup exactly means, I basically, I zoom in, alternate between spectral imagery and waveform imagery, and generate silence on every single thing that makes a hissing noise that the two instances of noise reduction might have missed. The first and second noise reduction had taken care of most of the work so its not as time consuming as you'd expect. Just the little bits of hiss here and there that didn't match up with the noise sample.
It usually takes me 5 minutes to do all those things after recording thanks to shortcut keys.
Also, if its anything to consider, I record really close to the mic but have its recording volume at around 70 - 80% so even if I scream, it would clip or distort.
Or if I'm feeling super lazy, I just throw the recording into FL Studio, pop in a limiter and set the limiter as a noise gate. It usually gets rid of all the noise for those quick recordings.
Decided to redo my moloch take from AC. I made this one as a before and after thing. The first part is just my normal voice with no edits aside from slicing them close and such. Then a beep. Then a second part where filters are applied to my voice.
https://instaud.io/tws
Really had to get upclose to the mic for it to pick up whispers.

They all sound neat! Though just a (hopefully) helpful comment: I actually think your Stalker voice sounds closer to Zeratul.

Here's me doing some lines for a command and conquer mod. Its for a stealth sniper unit or something. This one's without a filter. https://instaud.io/private/9e597c52af010861f7c8bffc9dae46d0fcce24b7

Very well done! Your Dragoon captures the sound of being in robotic shell very well. Your evil voices are well done also. :)

The voice acting is perfect! I feel like the original Moloch was more effect heavy than your version.
