currently when i import a .m3 into 3ds it says it cant find the textures in the 'maps' directory. ive exported all the textures and left in the file /assest/textures/' just asthe .m3 was from the SAME "assets" folder in "assets/units/etc..."
but it wont auto detect the .dds textures. im trying to get it wehre i can see all the settings they used by default to compare / learn from them, but since it cant detect them in the maps directory, ive got to add them by myself. which is fine for a basic diffuse texture, but im trying to learn more about the alpha / emissive textures and want to see the settings they used to make the units look the way they did.
anyone got any idea on how to make 3ds detect these textures in the 'maps' directory or has achieved this in any way? ive gone thorugh the 3ds help files but its pretty vague...
what i took from it was;
"As you assign materials in a scene, 3ds Max stores the complete path to each map you use. 3ds Max searches for that particular location. If necessary, 3ds Max continues to look through the directory containing the scene file and its subdirectories."
so i tried to save the .m3 i imported as a 'scene' then put it into the 'assets' directory that contained the .m3 and texture files. but upon loading the scene it just autpo loads the way i saved it from the scene (i.e. missing the textures) and is not 'looking for them anymore. how can i make it 'look' for them when i import it if i havent saved the scene file yet??? thats what im taking from the way the help file explained it above....
