So, in my spare time I'll be remaking the SC1 Terran campaign... and one of my biggest hurdles has been the briefings. Today I started on a Briefing UI for the Terrans. I wanted it to be similar to the original but .. nicer. lol Here's the work in progress (I'll attach at the bottom in case it doesn't show up):
Obviously the portrait is whoever is speaking, I might add 3 small tabs above the portrait for incoming transmissions, or for when 4 people are on the screen at once (but only one is ever talking)... the subtitles write-out in the blue box as shown, and the buttons are self-explanatory. Sound and animated portraits included!
Feedback!
EDIT: Oh, the offset of the Skip/Replay buttons below the portrait was intentional...at full screen in-game it looks more proportional in my opinion. I tried them centered and it looks too squished.
@QMJ3:
Hi, I'll be honest, I don't like the fact that there's only one big portrait followed by small one. That mean portraits get switched all the time, where the previous portrait goes ? Does it moves, dislodging others portraits ?
I think the major problem is that this interface will make it so that the interlocuters keeps talking to the player. Thing is that they don't, most of the time they discuss between eachother. So yeah I'm more of a "4 portraits of equal size" guy, plus a doodad-made background would be nice.
I will be working on a background image, plus more dialog items to create a bit of a 3D environment... to the portraits, I've quickly made two variations: one with a single other portrait in the lower right, and a second with 3 additional portraits on the right... which I'll admit looks a bit lop-sided or cluttered. Suggestions?
EDIT: Added the finished product below... implemented the briefing system in my map. Added a "speaker indicator" to the left/right of the portrait, since the mouths don't move, and it's nearly impossible to sync the animations with the speech, even if I did animate the portraits. Easier this way. :)
