I was just wondering what is the consequence for uploading a map with copyrighted models from other games? Is there a consequence? I assume you're not allowed to do it because I haven't seen it before. I was randomly thinking of the possibility of making an Alien vs Predator map after I stumbled resources such as this:
However I assume its not allowed because although I've seen many examples of models from games been imported into the SC2 engine for fun I've never seen an arcade game with any models from other games...
Is there a technical issue that's stopping this, or does Blizzard intervene? What about free models made by people free to use?
aslong as your map doesnt get officially regonized by blizz or people are reporting your map you will be fine (which should be about 99.5% of the arcade). it's basically the same issue as hosting sites, there are illegal videos there, if you report it it gets removed but it's not possible to control all.
I know only Airstrike which got excluded from the RTC contest last year, the author got a warning to remove the sound.
anything that is free to use doesn't make any trouble. check the arcade website, they posted hints and links to free assets
Thanks guys for the replies. Good to know. I guess my question isn't so much "How can I get around the rules of Blizzard" its more of a "What are the rules" and "Why don't I see much diversity in the models used?" I see tonnes of mods for games like Skyrim that import models from other games all the time and I understand its harder to control that sort of stuff when you're not downloading from an official server but still.

Hi guys,
I was just wondering what is the consequence for uploading a map with copyrighted models from other games? Is there a consequence? I assume you're not allowed to do it because I haven't seen it before. I was randomly thinking of the possibility of making an Alien vs Predator map after I stumbled resources such as this:

However I assume its not allowed because although I've seen many examples of models from games been imported into the SC2 engine for fun I've never seen an arcade game with any models from other games... Is there a technical issue that's stopping this, or does Blizzard intervene? What about free models made by people free to use?
Many thanks.
they will likely take down your map. i am unsure if they will ban you or anything on first violation tho.
@l3monsta: Go the honest answer:
