Hey, guys, it's alright, my comment was basically meant as a joke... I'm not exactly trying to "get my name out there" since I can take less than half the credit for the campaign, but people seem to enjoy it, and of course I wouldn't mind it on the front page. That said, I have close to zero experience in making videos and I'm not about to make some rushed youtube video that looks like crap just for the sake of making a video. =P If someone offers to make that video, then I'm all for it.

Generally speaking, though, (again, not trying to lobby my maps for the front page) I think your video requirement is a bit silly, and "most internet users don't like text" is not much of a reason.

there's no front page action. What gives?

    I know, right? =P

Anyways, Tolkfan, now I'm really curious to hear (read) your thoughts.

The removal of local hosting is the most disgusting part of it in my opinion, especially since they never even mention it. In order to use any custom content in multiplayer, you must upload it to their servers and subject it to their restrictions. You can't even get around the size limit with a downloaded SEMPQ (as a group of us did for a while in WC3, about 300 MB of assets for a custom map) without the risk of being banned. Similarly you can't use a utility to remove the forced latency that is destructive to WASD and other custom control schemes.

Almost a whole year later, I still think Iskatumesk's concerns about local hosting still hold weight. I think the only hope for it (and therefore LAN as well) is if Blizzard abandons the map marketplace, since that's likely the main reason they don't want us hosting (possibly "premium content") maps without their permission.

I'm a little late on this, but this is exactly what pisses me off the most as well. If something is killing the modding scene, it's the way they force people into their popularity contest, not to mention the ridiculous restrictions. It's like people are making maps that they think will be popular instead of maps they want to make. I kind of hope they're just waiting until the expansion to sell us local hosting. Probably not, but I'd be happy and disgusted at the same time (I'm already disgusted). It's such a shame, Starcraft 2 could easily have been Blizzard's best game yet.

EDIT: That's a pretty great post by Iskatumesk, he said it better than anyone ever could. I read it during the beta, but I refused to believe it because I didn't want to believe it. Even after the release I was thinking that in a month or two they'll actually finish the game and everything'll be fine. God I'm so angry right now.

Not to shamelessly plug my project or anything, just letting you know I've uploaded the Terran campaign here, in case you want to try it out. And if you see something you like, feel free to use it in your project. There's nothing super innovative or anything in there, but I'm hoping you'll get something out of it.

Thanks for the more detailed explanation. I gave this some more thought, and yeah, I'm not looking to be an active member on the project at this time, sorry. (This was before I read Tolkfan's post, by the way =P) It's just that you guys are kind of getting started while I'm basically just trying to wrap things up for now.

Tell you what. I'm gonna go ahead and release the stuff I've been working on, and if you like the maps you can use them in your project as you see fit, as long as it's ok with Ultra & Maverck. Thanks to those guys, the "duplicate" part of your list is basically done. The maps are very playable, but still pretty basic; there's always room for improvement, and things you listed such as side stories/missions, difficulty levels etc. aren't there yet.

Anyhow, I'll try to upload the Terran campaign sometime this week(end?). Good luck to us all.

Alright. Well I have (Ultraling's) Terran campaign pretty much done, and the Zerg campaign somewhat done. (!) I know, I've kind of just been sitting on them, heh.

My question is, how would this work? I don't like the idea of deadlines and all that... I could upload my maps and let you guys work on them, but I feel like I've had enough of the Galaxy Editor for now. =P That said, if we could figure out a reasonable way to do things, a "plan" if you will, who knows? Maybe I could help out with stuff in the near future.
